I purposefully seek out terrible horror films to watch (and just terrible films in general) from decades ago and recently just to see what original stuff they put in the movies. Usually certain events, dialogue, etc. would never make it into more heightened films. Not to say that Friday the 13th is terrible, I love the franchise. It's absolutely cultural and people still watch it today for a reason!

Tropes exist because of repetition and familiarity, but they are vital in helping the next generation of artists understand what the rules of the game are, so that they might be broken and changed...
