I watched Obsession recently as well. It was a good movie, but I did feel as if it was slightly overhyped. I’m happy to see an original idea get attention regardless.
Backrooms was different for me. I believe it’s because I could relate to Clark’s character in feeling a little displaced by the life he was living in, and feeling as if he hadn’t quite lived up to what he wanted to be. It was cool to see the concept of what could happen to you if you let those things consume you.
But… I also love a good classic horror movie too. Sometimes, horror likes to over complicate itself, that’s for sure.
Honestly Cuckoo was a great movie. It was weird and quirky in a good way! Very unnerving, kinda how I felt about Undertone.
Thanks for reading and weighing in. I could see myself giving Backrooms another try sometime down the road. Maybe Obsession, too, when I’m in a different headspace. So many of my favorites (Fulci movies, Rob Zombie’s Halloween films) were not movies I enjoyed initially.

For me, it really depends on my mood. I love a good jump scare. One that takes me by surprise. (I'm looking at you James Wan!) One that didn't announce itself before it actually arrives. I love a good gooey splat fest. (Sam Raimi!) The films that give me chills when a subtle moment resonates. <3 (Session 9, Lake Mungo.) Once in a while, I get masochistic! I want something that makes me uncomfortable. That gets me squirming--repulsed--anxious! (Martyrs, The Golden Glove, Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer.) I've not connected with films only to later fall deeply in love with them on a fresh viewing. I just love watching Horror!
